THREE MEN were stars in a local video just after Christmas – but not intentionally so. The men are the three suspects, seen in the below CCTV footage, whom police would like to interview in connection with a robbery and assault which took place on 27th December at Turquoise jewellers in London Road, Barking. Jewellery worth £50,000 was taken by the thieves – and the 45 year old manager was assaulted and tied up.
Police were called at around 6.30pm and found the injured manager. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was treated for head and facial injuries which were not life-threatening. He has since been discharged.
The police established that two men had gone into the shop and trying to sell some jewellery to the manager. He refused – and then they punched his head and face, causing the injuries, before tying him up. They then took items from the shop displays and safe. While this was going on inside the shop, a third man was outside, apparently keeping a lookout. He went into the shop later and helped the first two remove bags from the premises.
Police have given the following descriptions of the three suspects they would like to question.
Suspects 1 and 2
Suspect 1: a white man with a black beard wearing a grey bobble hat, dark blue jacket, dark trousers, black trainers, with a tartan hessian laundry bag over his shoulder.
Suspect 3
Suspect 2: a white man with a black beard wearing a dark body warmer over a grey top, grey jogging bottoms and dark trainers with yellow soles, with a dark bag worn across his waist.
Suspect 3: a stocky white man with a beard wearing a grey hooded top, grey trousers and white trainers.
Detective Constable Andy Davenport from the Flying Squad, which is investigating the robbery, said, “This is a shocking incident that has left the victim very traumatised after his ordeal.”
Shortly afterwards police released a still from CCTV footage taken in the store on 17th December, showing two men whom they would like to identify and question (see top of page).
