Tower Hamlets Council has been granted an additional £250,000 by the Government to tackle potholes. The council will be conducting a fast track inspection of all roads in the borough over the coming months to identify and repair potholes.
A major pothole repair has already been completed on Wick Lane bridge over the A12, where there had been a persistent water seepage problem. The remainder of the money will be used to resurface more of Vallance Road, which has received a number of complaints about potholes from local cyclists.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman said: ”Keeping the roads in good repair is a continuous budget challenge for all councils and the additional funding for pothole repair is very welcome.”
Cllr Shahed Ali, Cabinet Member for Clean and Green, said: “Last winter’s adverse wet weather conditions caused damage to the borough’s roads. The council is using the additional DfT funding to enhance the work being done to make the borough’s roads safer for all including cyclists, motorists and pedestrians.”
The checks and improvements are being funded through additional Department for Transport funding for tackling problems arising from the severely wet winter weather.
