Scintilla ease past Bow Green

Emdad Rahman

Ashfaqur Nobel struck a sweet 75 as Scintilla beat Bow Green by 49 runs in a close game at the Peter May Stadium, Walthamstow, this weekend.

Scintilla won the toss and Ayaz Karim opted to bat first. Nobel was the top scorer with 75, while Sajal Rahman struck an unbeaten 48. All-rounder Hasib scored 42, with Zahied Hossain adding a further 42. Scintilla finished on 318/8 from 45 overs.

Bow Green’s attack saw Valentine take 2/43 and Wilfred 2/50. They were determined to stay in for the full quota of 45 overs – and the Stratford based team achieved just that, with Barrington reaching 105 and Browne 84.

It was not quite enough, as Scintilla won by 48 runs. In attack, Aaman took 1/41 (8 overs), Hassan 1/58 (7 overs), Sajal 1/42 (9 overs), and captain Ayaz Karim 5/28 (7 overs). The win takes Scintilla into fourth spot in the ECCL. League leaders Ford CC lost to Newham CC and the gap is now 11 points.

Captain Ayaz Karim said: “Bow Green showed tremendous spirit. They are made up of seasoned veterans and their skill and know-how were in full swing today. Our team tactic was to bat for 45 overs and in the end that was the major difference.”
