Five days later – 5th place for team GB

Great Britain confirmed its world ranking of fifth as the first BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge drew to a close after five days of hotly contested matches. Canada won the championship, beating the USA 54 to 50. Australia took third place after beating Japan 60 to 55, but lost its world number one ranking after a defeat by the USA on day four of the tournament. Great Britain beat France 53 – 49, taking fifth place in the tournament, while New Zealand beat South Africa 76 to 29.

GB Coach Paul Shaw commented, “This has been a week of exciting matches and an opportunity for us to play the best teams in the world, all good training as we continue to prepare for Rio. It has been encouraging to see our squad stand up to the best in the world, for many of them this is the first time they have taken part in such a tournament and they have acquitted themselves well.”
