Voice lays out plans for 2018

January 06, 2018

THE JANUARY edition of The Voice, online newsletter of the East London Garden Society (ELGS), is out now – beginning the New Year by renewing its pledge to try to organise a Londonwide gardening show.

London is one of the few cities in the world which does not have any kind of citywide exhibition or event to showcase their natural environments and the successes of human cultivation. Can that be changed this year?

The focus this month is on Bethnal Green Gardens – several linked gardens providing green surroundings for some of the area’s major visitor attractions.  How can the area be better maintained and used? There will be a public meeting to discuss public involvement in these issues at the Museum of Childhood at 2pm on 21st January.

The Voice is also looking at the use of pesticide by the world’s potato growers: will an appeal to one of the world’s largest potato users, fast food giants McDonald’s, help curb the dangers. There’s educational material on dragon fruit, aloe vera and turmeric tea.
