Rofikul Islam has been made a Freeman of the City of London – the highest honour that the City of London can bestow on an individual. He is the youngest British Bangladeshi recipient of this honour.

Rofikul is a local community activist and international humanitarian worker who has inspired many to become more involved in their community through his diverse grassroots efforts in reaching out to those who are less privileged in society.

He regularly shares his skills and talents with those around him in order to make a positive change in local and international communities. This has included raising over half a million pounds for various charities over the last five years, including taking part in a bike ride from London to Paris to raise funds for international projects.

Rofikul has activated various projects on the international humanitarian front. He led various delegations to The Gambia, Somaliland, Bosnia and Bangladesh to raise funds for international projects, More locally, Rofikul regularly joins the One Third Soup Kitchen – a charity for the homeless, elderly, lonely and poor in East London – where he serves food to homeless and underprivileged citizens.

Speaking after his ceremony, Rofikul commented, “This is a huge honour for me and I would like to thank my family, colleagues, mentors for their guidance and faith in me. A huge thank you to the City of London for recognising me.”
