POLICE are calling for any witnesses to come forward after a young man was fatally stabbed in Hackney earlier this week. The victim has been named as Jason Junior Romeo, who was just 20 year old.
The stabbing took place in Bodney Road, Hackney E5 just before 6pm on Tuesday, 18th February. Reports came in to police that there was an altercation in the road. They attended, together with the London Ambulance Service. Officers from both emergency services treated Jason at the scene, but he died at the scene.
Officers arrested two men, aged 23 and 25, later that day on suspicion of murder and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (cannabis). They were released on bail in respect of the drugs charge while inquiries continue, but were released in respect of the murder chanrge with no further action being taken.
Detective Superintendent Kelly Allen, who is leading the investigation, said that Jason had lost his life because of a senseless attack and that specialist officers are supporting his family. She asked for anyone who was in the area at the time of the stabbing to get in touch with officers to help them build a picture of what happened that evening.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway echoed her call. He also appealed to young people not to carry knives. He said that the police and the Council were working together to reduce the number of knives on the streets.
