VW owners gear up for compensation

OVER 10,000 owners of VW motor vehicles are planning to launch a group action in the High Court later this month. They are seeking compensation for having been sold vehicles which were programmed to pass emissions tests but exceed emissions limits during everyday driving.

VW has admitted that its software cheated testing procedures on over a million diesel vehicles, including VWs, Audis, Seats and Skodas. The value of these vehicles will have declined as a result, and owners are entitled to compensation for the drop in value plus their inconvenience in getting the problem corrected.

Three firms of solicitors have joined together to bring the cases: Harcus Sinclair, Slater and Gordon and Irwin Mitchell. Harcus Sinclair has estimated that owners should receive compensation, on average, of just over £4,000 after legal action which will take just short of two years. They have invited owners of affected vehicles to join the group action.
