BARKING & DAGENHAM College has an excellent reputation for teaching a good range of practical subjects. One area of particular focus is the Green Skills Hub, where today’s young people are acquiring skills to join the careers of tomorrow.
The Green Skills Hub offers two kinds of courses: •training the next generation of automotive technicians in the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Workshop •practical courses in sustainable construction and energy-efficiency technologies in the Low Carbon & Retrofit Centre.
The college website says that the Green Skills Hub is located at the Rush Green Campus. That does make travel to the college quite challenging. If you are looking to do a practical course in Green tech, the courses are worth checking out.
The existence of these courses was brought to our attention by a press release – with lovely pictures – from Quantum Training, announcing that they are working with Ecological Building Systems to support retrofit training in a handful of UK colleges. Apparently Quantum Training specialises in designing and installing practical training environments where the students can learn. Ecological Building Systems helps shape the technical accuracy of the “retrofit rigs” and then ensures that the materials and methods are what’s needed. The combination, they tell us, ensures that “learners are not only exposed to theory but also develop the practical competence expected in real-world retrofit projects.”
We’re not quite sure we understand this partnership, but it sounds like a good thing. Do get in touch with the college if this kind of course would suit your teenager. With so much residential construction going on throughout the East London corridor, it sounds like we need a great deal more of these opportunities.
