Councillor Khales Ahmed, Tower Hamlets Council’s Speaker, took time out from his official schedule to participate in an information training session to understand and raise awareness of Dementia Friends.
The long time community activist and Bromley North Councillor said, “Dementia is sadly a progressive disease of the brain, but with love and support there is no reason why those living with this condition cannot live life to the full. This session has raised my awareness and will greatly help me in my daily engagements with my constituents. I’m proud to be a Dementia Friend and a part of a groundbreaking social action movement.”
The Speaker was joined by Labour Party colleagues. He joins Mayor John Biggs and elected officials who have trained to become Dementia Friends.
The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition. Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways people can help. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends programme to visiting someone living with dementia, every action counts.
