TOWER HAMLETS Council has announced that the terms and conditions of its parking scheme are to change from 1st September. The changes were “announced” on the Council website – apparently without any consultation.
The Government by Stealth approach immediately prompted Isle of Dogs Councillor Andrew Wood to submit a petition to the Council calling for wider consultation with the resident and business community before the changes are implemented. He also wants to see Councillors being allowed to discuss the proposals, and public feedback, at a Council meeting.
Cllr Wood claims that residents on the Isle of Dogs were promised a proper consultation on parking issues last year – which has yet to happen. He sees parking as an issue on which all residents and other permit holders should have a say before changes are made from on high.
Cllr Wood will be explaining his objections to the Council’s approach on 20:20 Vision, hosted by East London News editor Jenny Fisher, which will be broadcast at 10pm on the Vodcasts Facebook page tonight, 4th August. If you miss the live stream, the show will continue to be available on the Facebook page as a video on demand.
