BEANIBAZAR MADE IT three wins on the trot in the final warm up game before the Greater Sylhet Cup kicks off. A passionate game saw both teams start off at a frenetic pace, with tackles flying in from all ends of the pitch as both teams vied for on-pitch dominance.

After the settling in period Bishwanath enjoyed a sustained spell of possession in which Pervez Chowdhury’s Bulls frustrated their opponents, but the lack of a cutting edge up front left both teams going in 0-0 at half time. Beanibazar made wholesale changes, including goalkeepers Kunu Miah and Gous Ahmed swapping places.

With Chair Mesba Ahmed in attendance, Emdad Rahman’s team made the breakthrough midway through the second half as Ash Rahman was upended in the penalty area through a clumsy tackle and Captain Abdul Wahid made sure from the penalty spot with an incisive bullet penalty.

Bishwanath looked drained at this point, although danger man Mohibur Rahman caused problems with his darting runs and distribution. Ten minutes before the end an attacking move from Beanibazar involving Wahid, Abdul Komor and Abul Hussain was finished off smartly by Ash Rahman for the game clincher. It was the energetic wide man’s final contribution, as he left the field shortly after with a calf strain.

With Beanibazar seemingly cruising, a defensive mix up saw Bishwanath score late in the game. It turned out to be a consolation, as the Beanibazar rearguard held out to chalk up another morale boosting win.

Beanibazar Manager Emdad Rahman said, “Pervez Chowdhury’s side are no pushovers and I have watched them several times at close hand. It’s another good win for us, and the performance of the players gives me, Hamid Yusuf and Afazul Hoque a selection headache ahead of the final squad announcement this week. Winning breeds confidence, and a positive mindset is always great for preparation. We absolutely take no opponents lightly and as per our philosophy have learnt a great deal from this game.”
