TOWER HAMLETS COUNCILLORS: what are they like? The hot topic in the Borough is the decision of Executive Mayor John Biggs to impose new contracts (“Tower Rewards”) on the Council workforce.  Do Labour Councillors back him or not? Ten councillors have signed an open letter asking him to think again.  Thirty-one have not.  It’s time we got to know our councillors a bit better, so this month we’ll be sharing some quotes from Labour’s public representatives.

“Mohammad Ahbab Hossain said the food items would be delivered to the elderly and people in need of food assistance in the community through volunteers from various food banks approved and listed by Tower Hamlets, including the Covid-19 team, Mile End and Care House Food Bank. The Deputy Speaker thanked the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh for gifting the food items and the Bangladesh High Commission London for handing over these food items to the Food Bank of Tower Hamlets.”

Cllr Mohammed Ahbab Hossain, Bethnal Green, Deputy Speaker, quoted in The Business Standard. Cllr Hossain does not seem to have said much else in public and keeps his Twitter account private.

As Deputy Speaker, Cllr Hossain will be hoping to the next Speaker of the Council. He has not signed the open letter calling on John Biggs to think again on Tower Rewards.  If you would like to suggest that he should, contact him here: 07988 641407 Mohammed.Hossain@towerhamlets.gov.uk
