VALENTINE’S DAY was not a day of love in Goldwing Close, E16: it was a day of death, as another young man has lost his life in an East London stabbing.
It was still early evening – just after 8pm – when police received a call from the London Ambulance Service, reporting that a young man had been found suffering from stab injuries. Despite their best efforts for over half an hour, the ambulance staff had to pronounce the youngster dead at the scene.
Police are informing the young man’s next of kin and formal identification is awaited. The Homicide and Major Crime Command has launched an investigation and are waiting for a post mortem to be scheduled.
An abandoned vehicle was found later that evening in Freemasons Road, near the junction with Victoria Dock Road, E16. Police are trying to establish whether this vehicle is linked to the stabbing.
Detective Inspector Perry Benton said, “At this very early stage we are still piecing together what exactly has happened. However we believe the 17-year-old victim has lost his life following a sustained and possibly targeted attack. We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible.”
