TEAM LEGEND, sponsored by Tower Hamlets Estate Agents Hunter & Bloomfield, used their weekly football get together to raise awareness of the plight of the Rohingya people of Burma.
The Rohingya are being subjected to ongoing persecution and more than 500,000 men, women and children have fled unspeakable atrocities in their homeland to seek refuge in neighbouring Bangladesh.
All the players joined together to raise money, and the sum of £225 was presented to the Ummah Welfare Trust before kick off at the Mulberry Sports & Leisure Centre by Abu Sufian, Hamid Yusuf, Abdul Hannan and Shahel Ali of Hunter & Bloomfield and players including Kamal Uddin, Mohsin Ahmed, Moklisur Rahman, Rishad Haque, Sam Islam, Zisan Abedin and Anam Arafat Amit.
Hamid Yusuf from Hunter & Bloomfield said, “It is difficult for any human being to witness the pains of the Rohingya people and we decided collectively to use football to raise awareness as well as some funds. The amount we have raised is small but we know it will be put to good use and benefit the oppressed.”
Md Imran, fundraising officer at Ummah Welfare Trust, added, “Our communities have been active in voicing their discontent to what is happening to the Rohingya people and many innocents have and continue to suffer. Ummah Welfare Trust thanks Team Legend and Hunter & Bloomfield for this generous gesture. We hope it will inspire many others to help us help the needy.”
