Stepney Football Club, holders of the most Premier League titles in the Inner London Football League, unveiled a stunning new Adidas Climalite home strip at an official kit launch in Victoria Park, east London, this Sunday. The Club also revealed the kit’s sponsor: local baby and toddler retailer Tommy’s UK.

Stepney have won the ILFL Premier division seven times since its inception in 2001, making them the League’s most successful club in its 15 year history, and this played a huge part in Tommy’s UK’s decision to forge this partnership.

“Stepney Football Club is the most successful amateur football team in our community, and so it is an honour for Tommy’s UK to be associated with a true community champion,” said Mr Abu Shahid, Managing Director of Tommy’s UK.

Mr Shahid was at the event to help launch the new home strip officially and to receive his own outfit from First Team Manager, Mujibur Rahman. The 36-year-old businessman admitted it wasn’t just Stepney’s footballing achievements that had made the club attractive. “Stepney is more than just a football club. We love the work they have always done in the community and we hope our support will help them to continue doing this,” he said. Mr Shahid runs two stores in London: a local one on Roman Road, which is a stone’s throw from where he helped to launch the kit, and another in Peckham, south London.

The launch was attended by both of Stepney’s senior sides, A and B, as they were due to take the field in their respective league matches straight afterwards. While the B team went on to win 3-1 against Lotus SC and go up to fifth place in the First Division, the A Team didn’t even have to kick a ball to win their game, as their opposition failed to show. Fierce rivals London Tigers simply didn’t turn up, leaving the referee with no choice but to give all three points to Stepney – leaving the brand new kit looking pristine. “We’ll have to wear this kit more often. It seems to be scaring our opposition away!” joked Manager Mujibur Rahman, whose side have needed no luck so far having made a flying start to the season.

Rahman’s Stepney side currently sit two points off top spot with a game in hand over leaders Reachout. They are also the only side yet to taste defeat in the Premier Division.

Rahman also told the club that their old home kit, also a red Adidas strip and in perfectly good condition, will now be sent abroad to a football team in a less fortunate part of the world.
