Waltham Forest 0-1 Sporting Bengal United

A curling Yacine Teladjati free kick just before half time was enough for Sporting Bengal United to see off Waltham Forest at Wadham Lodge. The Essex Senior League clash wasn’t a memorable spectacle, more a lesson in how to grind out a win against dogged opposition fighting for their position near the foot of the table.

Tunde Adewunmi was a constant menace throughout as Josh Gonzalez, in the absence of captain Shahed Ahmed, led the away team to a gritty win. Ahmed ruptured his cruciate ligament against Halstead FC earlier in the season and is likely to miss the rest of the campaign. Had it not been for William Hunt’s heroics in goal, then Sporting could well have plundered four or five goals.

As a result of the three points, Sporting are now eighth in the table and level on points with Hullbridge Sports and Ilford FC.

Sporting Bengal manager Anwar Uddin said: “I’m delighted with the result today. Three points away from home and our fourth clean sheet in a row, impressive at any level.”

Assistant manager Steve Clarke added: “The challenge was to take three points in a fixture that could have been disastrous for us. Ugly, dull, job done.”
