IN THEIR DEBUT SEASON in the Inner London Football League (ILFL) Shoreditch FC have made their mark by storming to the Division 2 championship.

Sayed Miah’s men controlled the League from the beginning, and the winning formula was based very much on a measly back line which conceded the least number of goals in all three divisions.

The team itself is made up of a group of friends who used to play 11 a side football together in their youth and reunited to play football once a week. The Reds have also faced and overcame adversity after midfielder Mohammed Abu Thahir (Shahin) suffered a heart attack at Mabley Green in week three.

Shoreditch wrapped up the League with a couple of matches to spare, and in the penultimate game it was poetic that man of the match Shahin returned to the fold to inspire a 1-0 win over Riverside B with a last minute winner from top scorer Abdul Salam.

Manager Sayed Miah said, “This was actually a season of consolidation for us to enable us to find our feet. But we hit the deck running and have won a lot of games by a solitary goal. What has pleased me is how disciplined we have been in protecting a lead and not conceding and losing momentum. Nothing beats winning and we look ahead to next season with great excitement.”
