Shaha Riadh’s starting XI ran visitors Roding Valley CC ragged to stake their credentials for another high placed finish in the Essex County Cricket League this season.

Scintilla batted first and with home advantage coupled with a pitch perfect surface, they racked up 240 runs. With the threat of clouds on the horizon, it was the consistent Juwel Roy who was a shining light. The Scintilla star plundered 75 runs before being dismissed lbw. It was enough to earn Roy another man of the match award.

Roding failed to capitalise when a good spell had Scintilla on the racks at 121/5, but Roy was joined on the scoreboard by Syed Ashraf (28), Ishaq Shawn (26), Morshadur Rahman (23) and Syed Iftekhar (12). Roding CC bowler Ahmed took 5 wickets for 52 runs.

Scintilla returned after tea to make short work of Roding, who were bowled out for 152 from 32 overs. It was then a simple case of the two Syeds – Iftekhar and Ashraf – who stole the show with 4 wickets apiece. Toufik Billah added another to seal a polished home victory as Scintilla won by 97 runs. The win eases the Barking & Dagenham outfit into second place.

Losing Skipper Syed Islam said, “We were flying high and now we have lost our second consecutive game. What happens next will give an indication of our strength of character.”

Scintilla Captain Shaha Riadh added, “We changed the team a lot this week but despite the reshuffling the boys maintained their winning streak. They are oozing confidence. That is very pleasing for me.”

Club Captain Ahmed Choudhury was frank in his assessment, “I enjoyed the energy and vigour on show. The team is united, they are laughing, smiling. If they’re not bowling out opponents they’re running them out. At the moment they are irresistible to watch.”

The Umpire was MFA Zaman.
