Scintilla CC returned to Hackney Marshes to inflict defeat on National Cricket League high flyers Kothi CC as the race for the title heats up. Scintilla played out their quota of 40 overs first and reached 262/9 before tea. Demolition Man Juwel Roy followed up his 75 against Roding Valley the day before with 65 not out.

The biggest cheers, though, were reserved for Ashraful Islam, who struck 53 and was the outstanding fielder of the day. It has been a mere few months since Islam returned to the field after being hospitalised for emergency medical treatment for almost six months. Ashish Morankar struck 27, with Zisan Abedin contributinig 19 and Ashfaqur Rahaman Nobel 15. Alpesh Parajapati of Kothi CC took 4/31.

Kothi came back after tea determined not to lose the game. Manishbhai (40), Kalpesh (69), and Budresh (31) put up a huge fight as the visitors were bowled out for 220 from 35.3 overs. Captain Ayaz Karim led the charge with four wickets, Juwel Roy and Toufik Billah took two apiece and returning vice captain Sajal Rahman one as Scintilla won by 42 runs.

Captain Ayaz Karim said, “Our big performers came to the fore today. This is a very good Kothi team and they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. It is a testament to our abilities that we have beaten such a top side and this will do us the world of good.”

Man of the match Juwel Roy added, “I’m enjoying my cricket and this has reflected in my performances I suppose. The important thing is we secured the win. I’m fortunate that I have such strong personalities supporting me and I dedicate my knock to the team.”
