Another positive result for Scintilla CC 1st XI came last Saturday as they sank their opposition, ACE, by a seven-wicket victory. This confident win made it three wins in a row for Scintillians as they progressed through the season.
ACE, despite winning the toss and choosing to bat first, have only experienced the best of Scintilla CC’s pace bowling performance so far this season. Abul Hasib opened the innings with a wicket in his first delivery and instantly boosted the whole team’s spirit – which only made things better for Scintilla CC. Even though ACE’s batsmen were very patient afterwards, Hasib and Sajal Rahman kept things cool and restricted ACE to a run rate of only under three an over with the loss of one wicket.
First change bowler for Scintilla CC, Aaman Khan, was the star of the day when he picked up six wickets – having conceded only 25 runs in his seven-over spell. Batsmen were left clueless by the wild in-swings and bamboozled by the occasional out-swingers. Credit should be given to Rahman, who finished with two wickets for 30 in his nine overs, which gave a vital supporting role to Khan from the other end.
Hasib and Shahen Prince grabbed a wicket each and ACE’s innings concluded with 87 runs on board for the run chase.
Scintilla CC’s batsmen never really felt under threat from the opposition bowling attacks. Rifat Mahmud, who recently completed his GCSE, remained calm and took the anchor role from one end. Rahman and two other teammates, Ashraful Islam and Zahed Mamun, played aggressively and quickly compiled the runs to reach the target of 88.
The only bowler who took the three wickets Scintilla CC lost was Aslan, from his seven overs.
Overall, this was a conclusive win over ACE – but there are tough opponents ahead and Scintilla CC will need consistency and hard work in order to stay in the running for the championship.
