TWO TEENAGERS both had lucky escapes when they were injured as a large brawl took place in Globe Road, Bethnal Green, E2 on Friday, 17th May – and police are trying to piece together what happened.
Police and the London Ambulance Service were called out at around 3.45pm. When they arrived at the scene they found two injured males.
One, aged 17, had a slash wound on the head – which initially appeared to be life threatening. He was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery. Fortunately, he made a good recovery and was able to leave hospital after just six days.
The second teen, 15, was found near the scene of the brawl and had a minor slash wound to the hand. He was also taken to hospital, where he had medical treatment.
The second teen was one of four to be arrested on suspicion of committing Grievous Bodily Harm with intent. Two, aged 15 and 16, were arrested at the scene and taken to an East London police station for questioning. The fourth, 15, handed himself in at a police station. All four were released on bail and have to return to the police station in mid-June – which is why the police are now appealing for the public to come forward and help.
Detective Constable Greg Adams, who is leading the investigation, said, “This was a nasty incident and it was pure luck that he was not more seriously injured. We are exploring a number of lines of enquiry and determining the circumstances which led to the fight. The motive behind the attack is still being established. This happened in the middle of the day in Bethnal Green and we are sure that there are more people who saw this who have yet to share what they know.”
