NEWHAM POLICE are still trying to trace Shahidul Islam, 22, so that they can speak to him about a kidnap, assault and robbery which took place last year.

On 11th March 2016 a 19 year old man was kidnapped from Tollgate Road, E6 – apparently by a gang of men. At approximately 6.15pm, the victim was taken to a secluded area near Royal Dock Road, Beckton, where he was assaulted and threatened with a firearm before being driven to his home in Kent. The gang broke into the property where they held the kidnapped man’s younger brother captive while they stole various items from the property.

The gang took the kidnapped man back to Beckton, where they forced him to transfer money to one of their own accounts and told him to hand over £10,000 within a week. Throughout the time he was held captive, the kidnapped man was kicked and punched periodically, suffering cuts and bruises as a result.

This is a violent and sadistic attack. To date, the investigation into this crime has resulted in three people being convicted of kidnap, robbery and assault: •Kousar Ahmed, 23, of Linton Gardens, E6; •Riaz Ahmed, 23, of Whitchurch Road, RM3; •a 16 year old of E6.

However, it is worrying to think that one of the suspects may still be at large in East London. The police have asked the public help find Shahidul Islam – but they have warned the public not to approach him but, if they see him, to ring 999 at once.

Anyone with information on Islam’s whereabouts should contact DC Raf Patel at Forest Gate Police Station on 020-8217 5889 or via 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where your call will be completely confidential and you do not even have to give your name.
