A MAN HAS committed a sexual assault in Newham – but his female victim has disappeared. Police are trying to find her so that they can continue with the prosecution of the suspect.

The incident occurred on 4th July, at approximately 2pm, in Sherrard Road, E7. A 40 year old man was seen exposing himself while he sexually assaulted a woman. The victim screamed and ran away, heading towards Green Street. She is described as a light skinned woman with dark hair, which was in a ponytail. She was wearing dark clothing.

Witnesses had called the police, and officers arrived in time to arrest the suspect at the scene. They are minded to charge him with attempted rape – but they would like to find the victim. They would also like to speak to any other witnesses to the attack.

Police are asking the woman and any witnesses to contact them via 101 or on 07747-780 610. They will treat any approach in confidence. Witnesses or anyone with information can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where, again, information will be treated in confidence.
