The Barts NHS Trust has revealed that it has amassed a stonking deficit – and local pro-NHS campaigners are blaming the costly PFI deal which financed the new Royal London Hospital.
The Trust seems to be resorting to desperate measures to up its income, with a shiny new Lloyds Pharmacy having opened a shop in the Royal London Hospital foyer (in space which used to be the GP out of hours centre) – opposite Costa Coffee (the cost of coffee can include increased risk of heart disease).
Campaigners have launched a new petition and are appealing for residents to sign it and circulate it. It states: “We call on Barts Health NHS Trust and NHS England to make immediate, publicly transparent, plans to end the disastrous and unsustainable Barts Health PFI contracts now!”
