POLICE ARE looking for witnesses to an incident which took place on the evening of Friday, 27th April in which an unknown man followed a woman and then attacked her, causing Actual Bodily Harm.
The woman, 37, got onto a DLR train at Shadwell station at approximately 6.15pm. As the train travelled east, she noticed that a man appeared to be following her. She tried to lose him at Canning Town station, by getting off the train and then quickly stepping back on to it again. He too left the train – but sadly he managed to get back onto it before it moved away.
The woman left the DLR train at Royal Victoria station, wanting to walk from there to her home. She approached two men whom she did not know and asked them to walk some of the way with her, explaining that she was worried that she was being followed. The men walked along with her as far as Butchers Road, after which they continued with their journey and the woman continued walking home.
The woman was then pushed from behind by a man she recognised as the one who had been following her since Shadwell DLR. She fell, bruising her face and breaking a tooth. He went away, heading back towards Royal Victoria DLR station.
The woman went to hospital for medical treatment. Nothing was stolen during the attack, and the motive is a mystery.
Police would like to find the two men who walked some of the way home with the victim. Officers believe that they are witnesses in the case and are not treating them as suspects. They would also like to hear from any other witnesses.
