In a cliffhanger of a final Moulvibazar edged Sylhet to become the champions of the Islami Bank Bangladesh District Cup 2023 for the first time.

In the fourth edition of the BDC played at Seven Kings Park the new champions overcame a test of their resolve to beat Habiganj in the semi final before meeting two time winners Sylhet in the grand final.

Despite a low scoring game spectators were treated to a thriller as Moulvibazar clinched the title with two balls to spare.

On behalf of the event management committee co-founders Abdus Salam and Jawar Ali and management members Shahidul Alam Ratan and Omar Hossain Ratan commented, “over the course of a whole week we have displayed the best of Bangladesh through a mixture of sportsmanship, unity and amity.

“The Bangladesh District Cup is an important cricketing festival and through the participation of our fantastic cricketers as well as the icon players who took part this event has once again taken community and sporting engagement to a whole new level.

“Congratulations Moulvibazar – Thank you to all participating teams and our sponsors for their continued support.”

Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association chairman Abdus Salam on behalf of winners Moulvibazar said, “There are so many higher levels of cricket being played but the sense of togetherness and joy experienced during the Bangladesh District Cup is hard to beat.

“This is community and grassroots sports at it’s finest and this magical moment for Moulvibazar has taken four hard years of blood, sweat and tears to achieve. Well done to my team and I would like to share my thoughts on Sylhet, who in the spirit of sportsmanship were big in defeat today – They will be back stronger.”

Moulvibazar now join Dhaka and Sylhet on the roll of honour for the Bangladesh District Cup roll of honour.
