May gives in – she will go on TV

THERESA MAY started out bottling it – refusing to appear on TV in a debate with Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn. She was above debating, in public, with a man she (and most of the media) is trying to rubbish – even though he is her main opponent in the General Election.

Now it has been revealed that although she still refuses to debate head to head with Jeremy Corbyn, she has conceded that she will appear on a BBC Question Time special alongside the Labour Leader. The two Leaders will answer questions in turn. To date, this is as close as the public is going to get to seeing the two Leaders giving their alternative views on the same issues.

The May/Corbyn programme is due to be broadcast on 2nd June, six days before polling day. This will be followed on 4th June by a similar BBC Question Time special with Nicola Sturgeon and Tim Farron. There will be Election Question programmes on the same day involving Plaid Cymru Leader Leanne Wood and UKIP Leader Paul Nuttall.

There will be a BBC TV debate between seven parties on 31st May – the Tories, Labour, the Lib-Dems, the SNP, Plaid Cymru and UKIP. The parties will be represented by senior figures, but not their Leaders – which is, presumably, because of Theresa May refusing to risk debating with Jeremy Corbyn. She has, however, indicated that she is prepared to appear on The One Show, with her husband, in a programme which aims to help voters get to know the Prime Minister in a more personal way. It is understood that Jeremy Corbyn may appear on The One Show on a different occasion.
