Man dies after Hackney stabbing

ANOTHER YOUNG man has lost his life in Hackney – stabbed to death in the streets. It began when the emergency services were called just after 11.30pm on Sunday, 28th January. An hour later, another stab victim was dead.

The incident occurred on the George Downing estate, off Cazenove Road in Stoke Newington. Although the victim was treated by ambulance staff and taken to an East London hospital, he could not be saved.

The victim’s next of kin are aware of his death. The police are waiting for formal identification and the formal results of a post mortem. The investigation is being conducted by the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes, who leads the investigation, said, “This is a tragic incident which has led to a young man losing his life. At this early stage we retain an open mind as to motive and several lines of inquiry are ongoing.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of the George Downing Estate around the time of the incident to come forward, even if the information you have seems insignificant, as this may prove vital in piecing the events of this incident together.”
