A MAN HAS appeared in court to face charges in connection with a series of assaults on Jewish people in Stamford Hill, Hackney, on 18th August.
This followed a public appeal to try to identify a man whose image was caught on CCTV. Muslim and Jewish communities united to help. Their initial view, that the suspect was not local, was proved correct when a man was charged a few days later.
The Defendant was named as Abudullah Qureshi, 28, of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. He appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on 4th September, charged with: one count of racially or religiously aggravated wounding or grievous bodily harm; four counts of racially or religiously aggravated common assault; one count of racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage.
Qureshi was remanded in custody and was ordered to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 1st October.
