Downton Abbey star Jim Carter will take part in a charity cycling ride in Madagascar this autumn in support of Richard House Children’s Hospice, of which he is a patron. The route will take cyclists through the heart of Madagascar, and will include more than 450 kms of cycling, off-road sections and ascents of 1000m. Jim has supported the Beckton-based hospice for several years and became a patron last year alongside his wife Imelda Staunton OBE, who has been a patron since 2005.

Jim, a keen cyclist, has taken part in many charity rides in the past 15 years. “Cycling motivates me to get fit,” he says, “and through this ride I hope I can raise good money for Richard House, and I get to have a tough adventure in Madagascar at the same time. Having visited Richard House over the years I know how hard staff and volunteers work to raise funds and I wanted to help. ”
