The 2018 East End Health Network Health Fair at the Idea Store Whitechapel was an even bigger success than the previous year as large crowds of local residents and visitors to the borough participated in a host of health workshops, massage and advice from stalls promoting services by organisations like the Alzheimer’s Society.

Diabetes was on the agenda and some visitors were provided handy tips and advice on managing their health during the long fasting days of Ramadan which begins next month. Other activities included: distribution of goody bags; male and female massage therapists to relieve stress; a blender vendor to test cycling skills whilst creating a cool refreshing smoothie; body Composition Checks by a trained sports coach; free health checks provided by Nurses and Health Care Assistants.

EEHN Chair Dr Anwara Ali MBE commented, “The East End Health Network was formed in 2009 in response to the reorganisation of delivery of primary care within Tower Hamlets and the development of eight Networks mirroring the LAPs in the Borough. It’s wonderful to see so many faces both old and new, and I’m proud of the role we play in highlighting and promoting health to the good citizens of our borough and beyond.”

Social Prescriber Sham Zaman added, “We are very pleased with the turnout today and it demonstrates the importance our community places on health issues. It’s great that we are able to be of assistance and help increase knowledge and awareness.”

Network manager Ashraf Ullah concluded, “The turnout this year has exceeded last year and with our dedicated team and volunteers and with the support of our partners I can see us delivering bigger and better events in the future.”

The main sponsor for the event at Whitechapel Idea Store this year was Stirling Ackroyd Legal, whose representatives were in attendance to witness the popularity of the event. Special thanks were reserved for the property law specialists who have an office in Whitechapel.

The event finished off with a special prize draw.
