Golapganj 0-0 Maulvibazar
A fast pace and frenetic game saw the spoils shared as Golapganj and Maulvibazar played out a high tempo Greater Sylhet friendly at Mabley Green. Despite the draw, the game was full of slick passing and attacking thrust with both teams going for the jugular right from the whistle.
The first half saw Golapganj with the attacking advantage as the boys in red struck the post twice through Rahat and Rahat. Maulvibazar upped the tempo in the second half and camped out in their opponents’ half, striking the crossbar through two searing long range efforts from Jaman and Nassar – but Golapganj snuffed out most of the attacking threat from Nurul Hoque’s men by adding an extra man in midfield.
Golapganj manager Kamruz Zaman said, “It was a fast and furious game with lots of blood and thunder. With better finishing we could have nicked it. The boys did well, especially when we were under great pressure in the second half.”
Maulvibazar Head Coach Nurul Haque was philosophical, saying “What is admirable is the spirit shown by both sets of players. I think our fitness levels are still short and we will be addressing this. It’s a very good result for both teams.”
The Sonali Othith Greater Sylhet Upazila Cup takes place on Sunday, 28th August at Mabley Green.
