Get ready to Vitality-Run Hackney

By admin

March 10, 2016

What better way to let off steam the weekend after May’s election than to go for a run – and what better way to go for a run than to join thousands of other people doing the same thing?

Fortunately the Vitality Run portfolio of running events is happening in Hackney at just the right time.

Vitality Run Hackney 5K, Saturday 7th May The 5k launches the weekend’s events, with 2,000 free places available for local runners. This run starts and finishes at Hackney Marshes, taking in a flat route across the park in between. The straightforward approach contributes to the fun atmosphere as runners can enjoy the experience on the day without feeling daunted by the effort of a marathon distance. It’s the perfect opportunity for new runners to try the race experience.  All finishers will receive a medal to commemorate their achievement – as well as a bottle of water and a banana by way of instant reward! It’s a popular event, and runners are signing up fast, so if you are interested, sign up now. Register on www.runhackney.com

The following day – Sunday, 8th May – will see the Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon, the Schools’ Challenge and the Company Challenge. If you’re not joining in the running, there should still be a festive atmosphere out on the streets as London unites to welcome in the summer.

The concept of a running weekend was pioneered by Hackney Council, which aimed to bring the local community together as well as encouraging everyone to get moving as part of a healthier lifestyle. This year, Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture at Hackney Council, echoed that spirit, saying: “Whether you’re new to running or looking to set yourself a challenge, this is a fun, accessible race and I hope lots of Hackney residents will sign up.”

Vitality Run Hackney 5k Open to runners aged 11 years and over Saturday 7 May 2016 The 5k race starts at 3pm Starts and finishes at Hackney Marshes, Homerton Road, London, E9 5PF There are 2,000 free places for local runners
