Anyone interested in fostering and offering a loving home to a child can speak with council staff and foster carers at a special information session at the Town Hall in Mulberry Place from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, 18th June. Everyone who is interested is welcome and there is no need to book in advance. The session is part of Foster Carer Fortnight, the nationwide celebration of foster carers.

Robert McCulloch-Graham, the Council’s Director of Education, Social Care and Wellbeing, said: “Foster carers provide an invaluable service to children who are need in of a stable, loving family home. This information session is a great chance to meet some of our foster carers and to find out what fostering is really like.”

Anthony Uddin and Momotaj Begum have been fostering since 2007. Mr Uddin said: “We would encourage families to think about fostering and the Tower Hamlets fostering team can put you in touch with foster carers so you can have a chat with them about what it’s really like to foster.”

Lydia Manguru, a foster carer for 14 years, said: “I have made some really great friends through fostering with Tower Hamlets. We regularly meet up for coffee mornings in each others’ houses and arrange trips to the park with our foster children. We’ve even been on holiday together to holiday parks in the UK. This year we are planning a trip to France together. I really enjoy fostering and especially appreciate the support I get from my fostering friends.”
