A TEN YEAR OLD girl’s quick thinking saved her from a becoming a victim after a man tried to encourage her to get into his van. Now the police are appealing for witnesses so that they can try to identify the suspect.
The incident took place at approximately 1pm on Saturday, 24th June. The girl was walking along Ruscoe Road, E16, when a man came up to her and started chatting before trying to get her to get into the van. The smart youngster ran away and went home.
The man is described as black, between 40 and 60 years old, of thin build and approximately 5ft 9ins tall. He was bald and had a short beard and had a brown dog with him.
Detective Sergeant John Macleod from Newham CID said, “I would encourage anyone who was in the area of Ruscoe Road or the local park who saw either this man or the blue van to contact us. Although we have not had any other allegations of this type, I would urge people to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to us.”
