This summer thousands of families will experience a truly Golden Moment together by being among the first to run on the brand new track in the former Olympic Stadium at the Great Newham London Family Run.

The Family Run, part of the Great Newham London Run events being held in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Sunday, 17th July, will be among the first to use the brand new surface being laid in the Stadium.

The 2k run will start on the South Lawn and finish in the Stadium with participants crossing the same finish line that saw Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill and Usain Bolt win Gold in 2012. Thousands of children between five and 18 will run together with their parents as friends and family cheer from the stadium stands.

The Family Run will start after the 10km Great Newham London Run, with both races finishing on the running track for a Golden Moment stadium finish.

Families are being urged to book their places early to take part in one of the UK’s best sporting days out for families. Runners taking part in the event will be able to bring family and friends to cheer them on as they enter the stadium and finish the race.

Now in its seventh year, the Great Newham London Run is continuing to grow in popularity. The aim is to grow the event to make it bigger than the Great North Run, with 60,000 people taking part by 2020. Last year 10,000 people took part in the 10km race and 3,500 entered the Family Run which saw runners cross the finish line in the former Olympic Stadium.

Former athlete Brendan Foster, Chair of the Great Run Company which organises the Great Newham London Run, said:

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for families to run in the footsteps of the legends that lit up the golden summer of 2012. It gets more popular every year and we’re on our way to making this event bigger than the Great North Run.

“Parents are great role models for their children, and what better way to enjoy being active together than by sharing this Golden Moment, finishing hand in hand on the new track in the former Olympic stadium, just a few weeks before the Rio 2016 Games get underway.”
