Cllr Shiria Khatun, one of Labour’s Deputy Mayors, has this week warned that John Bigg’s Labour Administration is keeping a close eye on Brick Lane and will make sure all outlets conform to the law. She said: “The hearing decision demonstrates that we are prepared to take swift and decisive action if restaurants are found to be flouting the rules and continuing to tout for business”.

Cllr Khatun was referring to a Licensing Committee hearing on 12th May, which suspended the license of Curry Bazaar of 77 Brick Lane for three months. The Committee ruled that the restaurant had committed a sustained series of offences, including touting, keeping non-duty alcohol and breaching the conditions of their premises licence.  The Committee also heard there had been reports of aggressive behaviour by members of staff towards the police.

In addition to the three month licence suspension, Mr Mohammed Jubar Ahmed was removed as the Designated Premises Supervisor and the licence had a number of tough conditions added to it.
