Come and see the best China

April 12, 2016

There’s not a lot of tourist traffic from the UK to China. Most of us will never go and see China, so to get an idea of what this massive land has to offer, we have to wait for China to come to us. And that’s exactly what it’s doing – next month.

The sixth annual China Visual Festival runs from 11-20th May, based at King’s College London, BFI Southbank and the Bertha DocHouse screen at Curzon Bloomsbury.  There will be all that Chinese language cinema has to offer, as well as experimental video art from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and beyond. Artists coming to the Festival include artist Cao Fei, directors Yang Lina, Jin Huaqing and Nora Lam Tze Wing, actor Huang Shang-ho, actress and singer Ado Kaliting Pacidal, performer Gongqiu Zhuoma and Hong Kong Fresh Wave filmmakers

Over 30 films will be played, including Thanatos, Drunk, Zinnia Flower, Wawa no Cidal, Tharlo, La Town, Li Wen at East Lake, Longing for the Rain and other international award-winners. All strands of the Chinese language speaking world are covered: a festival strand called Vision Taiwan groups the best in award-winning Taiwanese cinema; and there will be special sessions focusing on LGBTQ cinema and Hong Kong.
