The man who died outside a bookmaker’s in Upper Clapton Road, Hackney, on 4th April has been named as Babatunde Akintayo Awofeso (also known as Bobby), aged 53, from Springfield.
Despite receiving emergency medical treatment, Mr Awofeso died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and results are awaited from a post mortem examination.
Initial inquiries suggested that Mr Awofeso had been involved in an altercation, inside or outside the bookies – but that the other man involved in that disagreement had left the scene.
A 26 year old man came into at East London Police Station the day after the incident. He was arrested and then interviewed by City of London police, who had been drafted in to assist Hackney police, who were suffering from an exceptionally high workload. He has now been bailed until a date in late April while police inquiries continue.
•Anyone who witnessed the altercation or has any other information about it is asked to contact the City of London police via 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
