It’s heating up! The Chhatak Upazila Union Cup 2022 is gearing up to be a unique showpiece event. Footballers and the greater Chhatak community in Britain are all set for the big day on Sunday, 26th June.
Hundreds of members of the Chhatak will attend a day of celebration in Essex. Chhatak is an upazila of the Sunamganj District in Sylhet, Bangladesh. There are a large number of expatriates in the UK, and this event promises to bring them together in spectacular fashion.
Among the teams competing will be Singchapoir Union, who have wasted no time in making a big-name appointment in East Londoner Joynal Abdin Miah Gulzar as first team manager. He is a renowned figure within the Bangladeshi football community in the UK with vast experience of grassroots football, including managing the iconic Sporting Bengal team.
For the past 20 years he has been busy with Sonali Othith UK, facilitating football events for veteran footballers, and has come back to management because the love and lure of his Union proved irresistible.
Joynal commented, “A lot of Unions are finding it a challenge to assemble a 15-man squad, but I have a positive dilemma as I’m blessed with a big talent pool to select from.”
On paper Singchapoir Union are hot favourites, but Joynal is taking nothing for granted. He added, “It’s all about the performance on the day. It all goes down to the determination and the desire to win. I am still hungry and I hope to motivate my players to follow suit.”
