Following the devastating news that Year 9 pupil Nasar Ahmed had passed away, Bow School has announced that it is “undertaking a thorough review” of events leading up to his death. Headteacher Cath Smith (pictured above, outside the school) has also confirmed that the school will co-operate with any other investigation that is carried out.
The information was given in a statement on the school’s website which announced that Nasar had passed away (full text below). The school’s original statement had detailed some of the circumstances of Nasara being taken ill, but this was later withdrawn in favour of a shorter statement. Nasar’s uncle has given the BBC further information about what happened before the school called an ambulance – confirming that Nasar told teachers he felt unwell but adding that Nasar had asked for his inhaler.
A spokesperson for Tower Hamlets Council referred inquiries about the Council’s position to the statement on the school website and confirmed that John Biggs had prepared a statement and the Council was considering whether to release it.
The BBC has reported that the Metropolitan Police are currently treating Nasar’s death as “unexplained” and are waiting to hear the results of a post mortem examination. They added that the Coroner and the Council’s Social Services Department have been informed of the teenager’s death.
