Football is a game of surprises – and Bishwanath pulled off one of the shock results of the Greater Sylhet Cup friendlies as Dawlath Khan Babul’s men beat holders Osmani Nagar 1-0 at Mabley Green.

Despite the obvious star quality within the Osmani Nagar team, it was Bishwanath who were hungrier and more determined to make their mark. Both teams went in 0-0 at half time, with Bishwanath edging possession in the first half. Osmani Nagar were stifled in the second half, and Bishwanath scored a stunning goal courtesy of Jamal Islam.

It was enough to win any game, but this win was even more impressive given that Bishwanath had no goalkeeper and six regulars were missing. Azad Khan was immense in goal and manager Babul had to put himself down as a substitute, to play if needed.

Bishwanath manager Dawlath Khan Babul said, “This is one of the best displays by the Bishwanath football team so far in this Upazila Cup campaign and the second half goal scored by Jamal Islam was wonderful.”

Osmani Nagar manager Mamun Chowdhury MBE added, “I’m disappointed with the result and so are the boys. I’m not going to make any excuses. Well done to Bishwanath on a deserved win.”
