POLICE WANT to talk to them – and they asked the public to help identify them. It worked. Now we have a second request: can we help the police find them?
Police want to talk to these men in connection with their investigation into the rape of a teenage girl in Bethnal Green in 2024. They have been named as: ●Showkoth Ahmed, 31, from Bangladesh, He is believed to be in the UK and has links with Tower Hamlets. ●Jahidul Hassan Jaigirdar,34, from Bangladesh. He also has links with Tower Hamlets but is believed to have travelled to Bangladesh after the police first circulated his photo.
On 1st August 2024, the teenager, who was just 13 year old, encountered two men on Whitechapel Road. They led her to Weavers Fields, where she was raped. The men left her there, and a member of the public found her and helped her.
Detective Chief Inspector Anna Deighton, who is leading the investigation, said, “I would like to thank everyone who responded to our appeal in September and provided information to police. The information we received has helped progress our investigation and led us to this stage of our enquiries.
“We are now naming Ahmed and Jaigirdar as men we need to trace and speak to. (…) We are asking anyone who knows their whereabouts, or who has information that could assist our investigation, to come forward immediately. We would also urge Ahmed and Jaigirdar to contact police.”
Crimestoppers, the independent charity, has made a £10,000 reward available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
