Beanibazar took the spoils against Moulvibazar in a well attended Greater Sylhet friendly at Stepney Astroturf.

Before the game the team launched their smart new training tops alongside media partners Impress Media who were represented by CEO Koyes Uddin. Abdul Samad from charity partner Beanibazar Cancer Hospital was also in attendance. The team mascot for the game was Khadijah Jannath, a local blind child who attended with her parents Fozol Uddin and Alea Begum.

The game was overshadowed by a serious injury to Abdul Komor on ten minutes and the Beanibazar striker was to play no further part in the game. He will be out of action for seven to eight weeks with cruciate damage and heavy bruising.

Despite Moulvibazar threatening to score an early goal, it was Beanibazar who scored first with a copy book goal. Kamal Chowdhury squared to Saim Husain, who lofted to Khalid Ahmed. The attacking midfielder drove in to lay the ball off to Abdul Wahid who centred for his brother Abdul Wadud to stroke home the opening goal.

It seemed the floodgates would open and although Beanibazar went close an end product was lacking. There was however plenty of intricate attacking play, with chances falling to Abdul Sabur, Sayad Zaman and Abu Jamal.

Zaman and Akil posed a threat for Moulvibazar and Siraj struck a post. However, Mufi Uddin was introduced into the Beanibazar attack and the talismanic hitman teamed up with Abdul Sabur and Ruhul Alam to score a second and seal the game before half time.

At half time Nurul Hoque changed formation in a bid to curb the on the attacking threat posed by their opponents. Despite Beanibazar controlling most of the second half, the score remained the same. Moulvibazar dropped a gear and Kunu Miah was largely untroubled in the Beanibazar goal.

Abu Jamal and Atiqur Rahman were introduced on the flanks and Abdul Salik and Emdad Rahman in midfield and attack. Hamid Yusuf stepped into defence as Beanibazar saw the game out to record a confident win.

It’s not all glamour, this football thing…

Moulvibazar manager Nurul Hoque said, “We played with energy and drive. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough. I can’t fault my team for their efforts on the night. We lost to a better team. We will learn lessons from this game, learn and move on with improvements. As the manager it is my role to keep the boys positive.”

Beanibazar manager Emdad Rahman MBE added, “The team clicked well today against a very strong Moulvibazar side. Nurul Hoque’s side are a difficult proposition and we came through this test very well. We played with width and attacking flair.

“It was great having Khadijah Jannath as our mascot tonight and she inspired the team. We are saddened to have lost Komor so early in the game and the loss of his presence is a massive blow to our team. It was his 14th wedding anniversary tonight and along with our prayers and well wishes everyone at Beanibazar Sporting Club UK also send our congratulations and regards to the family.”
