ROAD RUNNER Barry Culling celebrated his 250th Parkrun in the only way he knows how – running in fancy dress with a crowd and scoffing cake at the end. Despite the early morning heat, the Dagenham runner notched up his landmark 250 dressed as the iconic Mr Blobby.

Culling has volunteered over 70 times at Parkrun and participated at 63 different Park Run events. He also won first place in the Barking & Dagenham points competition in 2012-13. Commenting on his achievement, Culling said, “I’m over the moon. It’s been a really enjoyable five years. I’ve missed one Saturday in that time – so that say’s it all really. I hope to keep running for a very long time. Thank you to everyone for the kind words.”

Parkrun organises free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. The runs are free, open to everyone – and they are safe and easy to take part in. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings, and the organisers encourage people of every ability to take part. From those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience – everyone is welcome.
