Cricket fans were treated to a merry go round of thrills and spills as the Islami Bank UK Bangladesh District Cup returned to Seven Kings for 2023.
Despite a rocky start holders Sylhet overcame plucky Habiganj with a close two run victory.
Chattogram faced Dhaka in the corresponding fixture and put up a commendable performance, scoring 154 runs with the loss of 6 wickets. Juwel Roy (40) and Showan Mitra (47) were the standout performers with the bat.
Dhaka bowlers put up a strong fight with Shaha Riadh (16-2) and Hasan Porag (21-2) leading the way.
Dhaka replied with a valiant effort but fell short, scoring runs, with Rumman (31) and Rony (29) shining with the bat.
Chattogram’s bowlers also delivered impressively, with Belal (5-3) and Tanjim (14-2) making their mark.
Showan Mitra was declared man of the match.
In their second game against Cumilla, Chattogram posted a total of 108 runs while losing 8 wickets. Shamsur Rahman (38 runs) and Juwel Roy (26 runs) were the top scorers.
Al Amin (25-3) and Sajib (14-2) lead the charge.
Cumilla displayed an excellent batting performance as Bangladesh International Imrul Kayes stole the show with a remarkable 52 runs. Azlan contributed a further 21.
Chattogram District’s bowlers fought hard, with Suzan (16-2) and Rabby (22-1) making crucial contributions.
Cumilla became the first team to secure a spot in the semi finals.
Despite a confidence sapping loss to Sylhet, Habiganj bounced back admirably to record two wins in their final group games.
