Amputations after Redbridge flyover hit and run

THE A406 FLYOVER above Redbridge Roundabout was the scene of a horror crash on Tuesday night which left two men each having a leg amputated – and the driver of the car which started it all just ran away.

The incident occurred at approximately 10.30pm on Tuesday, 9th January. This is the key time and date – and police would like to speak to anyone who was driving in that part of London around that point.

A car had broken down on the flyover, and two men, both in their 40s, were standing next to it. Police believe that a silver BMW 330 Sport collided with a Vauxhall Vectra on the flyover – pushing the Vectra into the two men. Both suffered serious (though fortunately not life-threatening) injuries from the impact. They were taken to hospital, where they both had to have a leg amputated.

The driver and passenger in the Vectra were not injured. The BMW did stop at the scene – but only so the driver could get out and run away.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath are investigating the incident. One 25 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and has been released while the investigations continue.

If you were in the area at the time, if you witnessed or recorded the collision, or if you  have any information about it, please call the police on 020-8597 4874. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
