A talented Oldham youngster has offered a glimpse of the future and been named in the England Youth Table Tennis Squad for the third straight year. After being successfully assessed on his technical and physical ability, twelve year old talent Amir Hussain has yet again shone at youth level. The precocious talent is certainly one to watch, and the Bury League player has once again made the cut for the 23-player group which is selected by Table Tennis England.

Amir and his fellow squad players will spend part of their weekends and holidays working with national coaches at specialist training camps. The talented crop will receive one to one and group mentoring and training. The squad will attend monthly training camps and will work with national coaching staff on an individual or small group basis in between sessions.

As part of their overall development the youngsters will also receive specialised fitness training programmes and nutritional advice. Opportunities will be provided for the youngsters to play for England Leopards on the international circuit.

Table Tennis England’s National Youth Coach Matt Stanforth said: “This year, we had more applications than before and the standard year-on-year is improving. The big emphasis in the squad this year is on developing our fitness and on a close correlation between practice and match-play so we are able to compete more consistently on the international stage and deal with the pressures that come with competing at the top level.”
