London, United Kingdom - March 2015, LBTH - Cutting East Film Festival at Genesis Cinema.

Young people’s Cutting East film festival is back

This unique youth-led festival is searching for the next generation of film programmers and festival curators to be the new voice of cinema – and it could be you! Tower Hamlets residents aged 13 to19 (or up to 25 if you have Special Educational Needs) can get involved. No experience is needed: you just need to be able to donate some of your time, and have a love of film!

Young people can take part by submitting a film or becoming a programmer. Participants will learn from professionals about all aspects of film festival production – from film programming, marketing, and project management to design, helping lay the foundations for a career in the creative industries. Past programmers have joined live radio shows, visited the British Film Institute (BFI) and the Guardian headquarters, along with other unique experiences.

Previous participant, Diego Caicedo Galindo, said: “The process of programming the festival is something nique and the payout is so worth it!” Hamida Begum, who also took part in Cutting East, added: “It keeps inspiring and encouraging young adults. It was an incredibly rewarding experience.”

Cutting East is also running its Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund Rising Star Award again this year, in partnership with East End Film Festival. They are calling for youth groups and individuals to submit their short films for a chance to win a top cash prize.

Sessions will take place on Thursday evenings and during some weekends at the Brady Arts Centre. The festival, back for the fourth year running, will take place on 19th March 2016 at the Genesis Cinema.

The deadline for applications is 11th January. If you are interested in applying for Cutting East or would like to find out some more information, please go to: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CEApplication
